Doctor’s opinion: How often should one get teeth cleaning?

It depends on the condition of your mouth. If you have:

  1. Teeth or gum issues – every four months
  2. Common indication – every six months
  3. Good oral health – once a year

Teeth must always be cleaned at a dentist’s office before each dental procedure, such as placing an implant or treatment of tooth decay.

What does a dental hygienist do?

Checkup

  • A hygienist helps to locate areas with tartar or decay and identify the best treatment option

Anesthesia

  • May be required if your teeth are hypersensitive or we need to remove deep subgingival deposits

Removal

  • Indicated when you have tartar or plaque

  • Takes about 20 to 40 minutes

  • Suitable for everyone, even pregnant (always consult a doctor!)

If you had a deep cleaning of subgingival tartar, it’s better to come to your dentist three months later for a checkup.

Polishing tooth enamel

  • Involves different brushes and pastes for your needs

  • Helps to achieve a perfectly smooth surface

  • Suitable for both adults and kids

Tooth decay prevention

  • If you have hypersensitive teeth or are prone to tooth decay, we apply a special gel – it promotes regeneration and provides additional protection against cavities

All stages may take up to two hours in total. (This depends on the condition of your oral cavity.)

Dental care after a professional cleaning

The enamel may be overly sensitive for the first three days. A therapeutic toothpaste and special toothbrush will help to reduce the pain.

You must give up smoking, alcohol, and pigmented foods for at least three days post-procedure.

The dentist will give you detailed and personalized recommendations following the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, it doesn’t. Patients with highly sensitive teeth may feel some discomfort. (However, this is solved with anesthesia.)

At Svetlana Dental & Esthetic Center, we’ll do our best to make you feel as comfortable as possible!

Teeth cleaning helps your teeth retain their natural whiteness. The stronger the tartar, the more evident the result. However, only professional teeth whitening services will truly give you desirable results and noticeably whiter teeth.
